Papyrus Definition: Papyrus is tall water plant used to make writing material by Ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans. Significance: Ancient Egyptians used papyrus for paper. Hieroglyph Definition: A Hieroglyph is a written character that looks like a picture: a character used in hieroglyphics. Significance: Ancient Egyptians used Hieroglyphs as a form of writing. Red Land Definition: The Red Land was a barren desert that protected Egypt on two sides. Significance: The Red Land kept unwanted strangers out of Egypt. Theocracy Definition: A Theocracy is a form of government in which a country is ruled by religious leaders. Significance: Egypt was run as a theocracy. Pharaoh Definition: A Pharaoh is a ruler of ancient Egypt. Significance: There were many pharoahs to rule over egypt. Bureaucrat Definition: A Bureaucrat is a person who is a part of a Bureaucracy. Significance: Bureacracy was a key factor in the inception of the Egyptian civiliztion. Embalming Definition: Embalming is the act of treating a dead body with special chemicals to keep it from decaying. Significance: Egyptians embalmed the dead. Pyramid Definition: A Pyramid is a structure with a square base and four triangular sides that form a point at the top. Significance: There were many pyramids built in Egypt. Incense Definition: An Incense is a gum, spice, or other substance that is burned for the sweet smell that it produces. Signifcance: Ancient Egyptians incensed the dead. Envoy Definition: A person who is sent from one government to represent it in dealing with another government. Significance: The exchanges of envoys was considered a major development in ancient Egypt. |
